The refreshed Passat Alltrack has canned its diesel motor in favour of a high-performing turbo petrol mill making a very decent 162kW (217hp) and 350Nm (258 lb ft). And on the road, it actually feels quicker and more responsive than that. Paired to standard 4MOTION AWD and an impressively balanced chassis, the Passat Alltrack is more of a driver’s car than the softly-sprung Subaru Outback. But which is a better option for your family? Volkswagen have also introduced a new, cheaper Passat Alltrack grade, which you see on test today. Is the Passat Alltrack a great family car? Do wagons still rule? Or does an SUV, like a Mazda CX-9 or Skoda Kodiaq, make more sense for you? In today’s video, Tom takes a detailed look at the new base model Passat Alltrack with no options fitted to give you detailed insights about this vehicle. What do you think of this car?
