COVID-19: Biden announces new travel measures, push for boosters amid Omicron variant | LIVE

U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to announce new health measures for travellers on Thursday in an effort to prevent the spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, a day after the first known case was reported in the country. The changes will include requiring all in-bound international passengers to test for COVID-19 within 24 hours of departure and extending its mask requirement on all domestic flights and public transportation through March 18. The White House said in a release of the new measures that testing will be required regardless of vaccination status. Biden is also expected to announce more measures including making testing more available to Americans and kicking off a more urgent campaign to get people COVID-19 booster shots. The president is expected to detail how his administration will ensure the nearly 100 million eligible Americans who have not gotten their booster shot is able to get one as soon as possible, including expanding pharmacy availability and reaching out to all eligible customers. Biden also will discuss how community distribution of free at-home tests will be expanded, and several U.S. departments will be working towards ensuring health plan coverage will include no-cost rapid, over-the-counter tests.
