Kenya’s President: Why the whole world should oppose the war | DW News

Kenyan President William Ruto urges action on the "existential threat" of the Ukraine war in an exclusive and outspoken interview with DW’s Richard Walker. "A threat to peace anywhere is a threat to peace everywhere" William Ruto says as he explains Kenya’s strong opposition to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. "Today it is Russia and Ukraine. You never know who it is tomorrow." Ruto calls on China to do more to end the war and condemns Russia’s decision to move nuclear weapons to Belarus, saying it could put "the globe at risk of a full-blown war." He sets out why it is urgent to tackle the high prices unleashed by the war. But Ruto equally condemns the West for neglecting conflicts in Africa, and demands serious action on climate change. "Stopping financing fossil fuel has to stop. Otherwise this globe is going to burn with all of us in there." He urges an overhaul of global finance that Ruto says Africa holds the key to progress – with vast natural resources, huge potential to produce clean energy, and a young and energetic population. He explains what the world needs to do to tap these resources.
